National Poetry Day

National Poetry Day is an excuse for the nation to celebrate the art form that, lets face it, we've all had a go at.

Even if you haven't dabbled since your distant school days when you wrote a rather nice little rhyme - got 7 out of 10 for it -that was possibly largely borrowed from a song that was in the charts at the time, and you've completely forgotten what it was about, you will have had a go.

And we have all been gripped by a string of words, crafted together by someone else to convey an idea or emotion, whether that was as a poem, the lyrics of a song or a well crafted lyrically told funny story.

National Poetry Day is the chance to get back into it.

There is plenty going on in Nottz so you don't really have an excuse!

OK poetry is not exactly straight forward.

A poem that really fires one person up may leave the next person feeling rather cold or even confused. There are sweet, sickly rhyming ones, and deep challenging ones that don't seem to have much of a pattern and almost defy the definition of a poem. There are those that will make you cry. Those that will make you laugh. Some will get you angry. Whilst others just send you to the bar for well earned break.

But as long as you approach a poetry night with an open mind and the understanding that you don't have to go anywhere near the open mic, you should have a great time.
