Derby Poetry Festival 2023
Open Mic Sign Up
Deadline 23rd Sept

poster In its sixth iteration, Derby Poetry Festival is taking place from the 2nd - 6th October 2024.

Throughout the festival programme there are plenty of opportunities to perform on the open mics. In an effort to be fair and transparent we are introducing this form for poets, writer and creatives to sign-up to perform on the open mics.

We will use this to fairly distribute open-mic slots and in the event of more people applying than we have slots available we will use a random generator to select applicants. There may be open mic slots available on the door but we can't guarantee this.

Call for submissions for Episodes 26 and 27
Poetry Worth Hearing
Deadline 18th Sept

poster September's episode will have the theme 'inside / outside'. This is deliberately all-embracing and you might be thinking along the lines of indoors or outdoors, appearance and reality, physical and mental -whatever.

October's episode will have the theme 'canonical'. What is the canon? still mainly dead white men? or has it expanded to be more diverse, more global?

Divine Might: Goddesses in Greek Myth
by Natalie Haynes
Nottingham Pagan Book Club
24th Sept

Five Leaves Bookshop 14a Long Row, Nottingham, NG1 2DH

bookcover Five Leaves hosts the Nottingham Pagan Book Club, a reading group for those interested in Pagan literature, both modern and classical. The group is open to anyone who would like to discuss books from a pagan perspective, be they long-time pagans or just curious about exploring pagan spirituality.

For September we’re back to the Greeks – this time for Natalie Haynes’ fantastic book on Greek goddesses. Haynes manages to combine huge amounts of research with a plethora of pop culture references and a wicked sense of humour, for this very smart, yet entertaining take on the classics. If you’ve not heard her podcast ‘Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics’ give that a listen and you’ll know what we mean.
