A Ghost Story for Christmas
A Warning to the Curious
by M. R. James
Adapted for audio by Guy Jones
Montague Rhodes James was born in Dover in 1862. He went on to become a Medievalist at King’s College Cambridge, eventually becoming Vice Chancellor in 1913.
He is best remembered for his ghost stories, which are still regarded as amongst the best ever written. He was particularly keen on linking his tales of the supernatural with ancient history. Often a malevolent force is awakened as a result of the unearthing of an ancient artefact by an amateur historian.
His first collection of ghost stories, Ghost Stories of an Antiquary, was published in 1904.
Many of his stories have been turned into film, television and radio dramas and he remains one of the best selling writers in the genre.
A Warning to the Curious was first published in 1925 and is one of his best known works.
